As we know diabetes has an adverse impact on vital organs over time. It especially impacts organs that have smaller blood vessels such as the arteries around the heart, the feet and unfortunately too, the penis. However keep reading for the best treatment you can give yourself to ensure that this complication does not affect you.Diabetes and erectile dysfunction

Why does diabetes cause erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to get or maintain an erection that is firm enough to have sex.  In recent studies it has shown that close to 60% of diabetic men are impotent. This has caused some of them to fall into depression or become reliant on drugs. It is amazing then that this area has been one of the most neglected complications associated with having diabetes.

The main issue with diabetes and erectile dysfunction stems from problems controlling ones blood sugar levels. This in turn impacts on vital organs through the damage it does to nerves and blood vessels. The smaller blood vessels in your penis are often unable to get healthy blood flow which is required to give you a strong healthy erection. This may mean weak, flaccid or no erections at all.

Diabetes can also impact your blood pressure as well which may also impact the strength of a man’s erection. All this can leave a man and his partner very frustrated, discouraged and even depressed.

So many diabetes complications…

As explained above diabetes constricts the normal healthy blood flow to vital organs in the body. These are known as diabetes complications. Unfortunately for the vast majority of diabetics the complication that statistics say will ultimately cost us our lives is complications to do with the heart. It can also cost you a leg as amputations are very common in the world of diabetes. Please see my blog post on diabetes and heart disease here.

Diabetes and erectile dysfunction is reversible

That headline should really grab your attention, especially if you are struggling in this area. The most important point as always is in controlling your blood sugar levels. Good control of your blood sugar levels coupled with a healthy diet and a proper exercise regime will limit any potential complications from diabetes across the board. Unfortunately this is not something that will reverse ED overnight, but ultimately it is the best long term solution. Monitoring and working to control your blood sugar is a no brainer and something you should focus on all of the time so that you can lead a normal, happy, healthy life.

Talk to an expert about ED

You should talk to a doctor or an expert in the field of ED and tell them what is happening. Do not let embarrassment stop you from seeking advice. I Diabetes and erectile dysfunction solutionsrealise that it can be difficult for a man to open up about something like sexual dysfunction but this is your life and you only get one shot at it. You need to decide whether spending a lifetime living with shame and embarrassment and even depression is worth having compared to talking with a professional who specialises in helping men with this kind of problem.

The problem maybe something as simple as the medications that you take to manage your diabetes that maybe having an adverse impact on your ability to achieve an erection. Your issue may only be a psychological one that can be addressed with proper counselling. The point is you won’t find out unless you talk to an expert openly and honestly.

There are medications available

Diabetes and erectile dysfunction medicationsThese medications are very well known these days. Ones such as Viagra or Cialis have worked wonders for people in the past. These are prescription drugs and they are not cheap it must be said. You will also need to tell your doctor if you are on other medications before taking these little helpers , especially heart medication as they can be quite dangerous if taken in conjunction with other cardiovascular/ heart drugs. .

Other obvious things you can do straight away

Stop smoking. This is a no brainer. Smoking narrows your blood vessels which is bad news for your erection. Your erectile dysfunction might be cured by something as simple as quitting smoking. You may also need to lower your intake of alcohol. Alcohol and erections do not mix well.

Lose weight . Being overweight is a key determinant in achieving a healthy erection. If you need to lose weight especially around your stomach then do it. A rigorous exercise regime will work wonders for your overall health as well as blood flow into your member.

Yes Mike it is a definite ‘downside’ to diabetes for men as you say. But the good news is that there is plenty of help starting with that eBook. To be honest ED it is one of the complications that does not get a lot of air time. I suppose the potential for heart attack and strokes is a little more important in real terms, but diabetes is one of the chronic diseases that seems to affect everything in a bad way. Thanks for tuning in.

I think I know a lot about diabetes but this is a new one on me. I never heard of erectile dysfunction caused by diabetes but being a diabetic, I sure don’t want that problem. It appears that there are options if men have it but my choice is to get rid of diabetes and not ever experience this condition.

That’s the best way forward for sure Rob. Yes diabetes affects many things that you would not generally think of. Hearing loss is another symptom that not many people including diabetics are aware of. See my blog post about hearing issues here http://healthybloodsugars.com/does-diabetes-cause-

Good luck with everything Rob, awareness is a vital step in the overall process.
