The bad news is that you maybe about to get diagnosed with full blown type 2  diabetes. It all boils down to the action you take after your diagnosis. The three aspects of your lifestyle that I mentioned above are all very much under your control. These three aspects should be viewed as important by anyone whether they have pre diabetes or not. If you develop diabetes there are long term ramifications including a significantly higher risk of heart attacks, strokes and other problems with your internal organs.

Lose some weight

Almost everyone that is diagnosed with pre diabetes is overweight. That is a simple statistic which can not be overlooked. If you are at a healthy weight your body is able to use insulin that it is producing in an optimum way. It significantly reduces insulin resistance in the body. It is important that if you need to lose weight you do so in a natural, healthy way. You would not go on a starvation diet for a few days to lose weight in a dangerously fast way for example. Changing your diet to one that has plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is a great place to start. There are numerous diets and recipes online that are healthy, nutritious and tasty. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water as well. If you focus on managing your weight through your diet it is the optimal way to go.

Increase your daily exercise.

You don’t need to train the house down and overly exert yourself. This is a dangerous way to exercise especially if you have not done anything in a while. To start back into it go for a brisk walk and slowly build up to a jog from there. You will be surprised and impressed how quickly that you improve over the course of a few short weeks. Ideally your exercise regime should include a combination of cardiovascular activity i.e. jogging, swimming, bike riding, rowing etc and resistance activity i.e. weights including bench press, squats, dead-lifts etc. Your exercise will determine how well you manage your weight loss. These three lifestyle choice work and build on each other.

Change your diet

Managing your weight is primarily impacted by the foods you eat. It will be tough to make a change at first and you will need to reward yourself as you go along but changing to healthy, nutritious foods is not only going to stave off type 2 diabetes, it is also going to ensure that you live a long and healthy life. You will feel better and start looking better only weeks into changing your diet for the better. Avoid saturated fats, in fact watch your fat intake very closely. Limit junk food and sweets also.
